About BLACK COPPER

BLACK COPPER Arts, Inc. is a multidisciplinary contemporary cultural institution rooted in publishing, artist-centered programming, and cultural documentation. Founded in 2020 in New York City, we operate across four pillars: Publishing, Programs, BC Market, and Publishing Services.

Role Overview

The Publishing Intern works across BLACK COPPER's full publishing program — our biannual magazine, the Rare Editions series, and a growing roster of partner publishing projects. This is a production and research role, sitting at the intersection of editorial operations and institutional documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Artist research: compile bios, exhibition histories, press, and social presence for featured and prospective artists

  • Submission management: distribute briefs to artists, track submissions, and compile materials for editorial review

  • Ad materials tracking: coordinate with advertisers, confirm receipt of all materials, and maintain production deadlines

  • Editorial support: assist with proofing, artist text edits, and production coordination

  • Website management: build and update magazine issue pages, publication listings, and artist profiles on blackcopper.org

  • Stockist distribution: coordinate physical magazine distribution to bookstores and institutional stockists

What We're Looking For

  • Genuine interest in art publishing, editorial work, and cultural institutions

  • Strong written communication and organizational discipline

  • Comfort with production timelines and detail-heavy coordination

  • Familiarity with Wix, Airtable, or ClickUp is a plus — not a requirement
