BLACK COPPER Arts, Inc. is a multidisciplinary contemporary cultural institution rooted in publishing, artist-centered programming, and cultural documentation. Founded in 2020 in New York City, we operate across four pillars: Publishing, Programs, BC Market, and Publishing Services.

Role Overview

The Development Intern supports BLACK COPPER's institutional growth through research, operational precision, and relationship-building. This role spans grant research, lead generation, deadline management, event logistics, and the early development of BC's membership program — the kind of foundational work that determines what an institution becomes.

Responsibilities

• Grant research: identify funding opportunities relevant to BC's publishing, programming, and community work — including NEA, arts documentation, cultural journalism, and artist support grants

• Lead generation: research institutional partners, individual donors, and development prospects to build BC's fundraising pipeline

• Deadline tracking: maintain a running calendar of grant deadlines, report dates, and development milestones

• Event logistics: support planning and coordination for BC programming and publication launch events

• Membership program: contribute to the research, structure, and early-stage development of BC's membership offering

What We're Looking For

• Strong research skills and the ability to synthesize information clearly and quickly

• Organizational rigor — this role lives in the details

• Interest in arts administration, nonprofit development, or cultural institution building

• Familiarity with Airtable, Google Sheets, or similar tools is a plus

Details

Location: Remote, with occasional in-person requirements in New York City

Compensation: Unpaid / Academic credit available

Duration: Minimum 3-month commitment preferred
