BIOGRAPHY

Jade Rogers’ CRWN is a photographic series rooted in love and devotion to the Black community. The collection emerged as an act of self-reflection during a time of immense grief and unrest, sparked by the ongoing loss of Black lives to police violence and the systemic injustices that disproportionately impact Black and POC individuals. This deeply personal and collective exploration began during the isolation of the COVID-19 pandemic when Jade grappled with feelings of inadequacy in the fight against systemic racism. The pervasive depiction of Black trauma in the media magnified her sense of helplessness, overshadowing the space needed for healing and hope.
Reflecting on these emotions, Jade sought a shared source of resilience and unity within the Black community. Her journey led her to examine the process of self-love and acceptance, particularly through the lens of embracing her natural hair. This process of self-discovery became a metaphor for collective growth and empowerment.
CRWN stands as a celebration of Black joy and the reclamation of the Black body, offering space for vulnerability, devotion, and recovery alongside mourning and loss. Each subject’s identity is intentionally anonymous, inviting viewers to see themselves in the images and share in the universal experience of joy, resilience, and self-love within the community. This body of work is a testament to the beauty and strength of Black identity, preserving moments of collective healing and the boundless capacity for joy.
